It could be just low on fluid or the filter has fell off in the pan. A low fluid condition can cause the converter to lock up an kill the engine.
A bad pump can do this too. A long time ago we had one come into the shop and the engine would die in reverse and it turned out to be a bad speed sensor, the sensor was reading a 100+ at all times. When the computer saw this and it was shifted into reverse it would shut off the fuel supply causing the engine to run out of fuel, weird problem that I have never seen since.
I would suggest that before you spend big bux, you check the wiring harness from the E4OD up to the Drivers side top of the inner fender apron. Since it was replaced, it could have gotten pinched somewhere and just now shorted out/broken.
Since the shifting is all eletronic, a pinched/broken wire either at the MLPS could be sending the wrong gear indication to the PCM or the PCM shifting signal may not be getting to the solenoid pack in the tranny and a solenoid may not be operating or releasing. A little while back, somebody on here had a pinched harness from a replacement, different symptom, but had to do with shifting etc.
Might do some checking, its cheep--- LOL
