I have a 1966 F100, and I have a 1972 351 Windsor.
I want a 5 speed, I have been looking at the ZF series trans. Thoughts, what can handle the 500 or so I plan to throw at the trans? I dont care on the trans crossmember, I can fabricate. The rear end is already built to hold up.
Zf S5 47 capable of it? or should I look for something. I like to go fast, and be fast. Rear end has 3.55, so its about neutral on what it will do, I just need the trans to run compression, mock up location, and finish the drive-train of my build.
FWIW, go with an automatic. Much easier, easier on the rest of the drive train, and they don't blow up like a clutch will.....serving suggestion.
Not really Hot rod ish, I said I like going fast, and I have those toys. Itd be nice to put a matching trailer behind the Ford, but Id want it to have a little oomf for a small show. the paint job will not be hotrod, same with the interior..... if that helps. But thanks for the link. I wouldnt mind a T series.
Stone stock Mustang t5 not even z spec. 363 Windsor 457 spool 10" slicks 3800 rpm launch 5000 rpm power shifts. Held up two years of bracket raceing every wednesday night
Ratios are in that link above--isn't that what you are looking for?
AFAIK the cable clutch is a Mustang thing and you can get around it using a non Mustang bell if you are looking at the t500 etc.
All ZF 5 speeds for Ford are hydraulic clutch and have an integral bell.
Sorry, ill need to look at it more. Any Idea for the years? More specifically any changes etc? I can get a damn good deal through the parts department where I work. I appreciate the link, but cant justify the prices when I can get them 1/2 for what the site wants.

Bringing this back up. I found a Borg Warner T10, from a 1973 truck. The 351 I am building is from 1972. The BW is from a 5.9 truck, so question is, bolt pattern of the bellhousing. Will it fit, or do I have to get a new bellhousing.
If the bellhousing is from a 302/351w then it will fit your 351w. I was not aware that a T10 was ever factory in a F series truck? The 5.9 is I believe an FE series motor so the bellhousing would be completely different
Ford used them in cars until they developed the top loader 4 speed in 1964. You could probably find them in '64, maybe into '65. Ford never installed them in a F series trucks.
IMO I would sell it to someone who wants it to be "correct" for their old Fairlane or Galaxie.
yes I do know this. This is why I inquired and also have inquired from the seller. Could have been a swap. Not sure. Waiting for the response tomorrow since I am going through my parts guy. If it somehow doesnt make sense, which it already doesnt, than i will most likely build the c4, run a slap shifter, and convert the truck to an automatic version.
