the trans. truck was originally purchased by the Chicago northwestern railroad if this helps.

As original, TWO different optional 4 speeds were available:
TRANS CODE stamped on the 2nd line of the Warranty Plate (see sample pic below), located on the left door face below the latch.
F = Warner T-18 4 speed / N = New Process 435 4 speed.
CNWRR: Is there a TRANS code stamped on the Warranty Plate or not? Look on the 3rd line far right of the Warranty Plate for the DSO code, post what it is.
It's possible that a special trans was installed, especially if this F350 was once equipped as an inspection vehicle that could be driven on the rails.

The NP 435 was the only 4 speed offered on a '65 F 350. You'll never see a light duty T 18 in a F 350. IF it has an aux. trans. it is aftermarket, somebody added in on later.
41 = Chicago IL Ford District Sales Office, where the original selling dealer ordered the truck from.
0276 = Domestic Special Order number, truck was a special order, not "bought off the lot."
No COLOR or TRANS or AXLE codes, so the trans and rear axles were not RPO's (Regular Production Orders). Truck painted a non standard color per the original purchasers request.
All 3 of these things make it a Domestic Special Order.
Ford sent this truck out after it left the assembly line to have the trans and axle installed. You'll have to look for ID plates and/or numbers marked on these parts to ID them.
Any updates? very interesting special order, I've never seen a pickup with a special order transmission and rear end. I bet this truck was used to push around railroad cars for a living, must have super low gears in the boxes and rear end!
I was playing in the truck and found the manufactures plates for the hy rail system glued to the back of the drivers visor. then I just happened to work on a guys barn and found out he worked for ford for over 50 years and one of his jobs was working with dealers and their special orders. I drove the truck over to him and he was amazed by the truck. he explained to me the truck was a basic chassis order cab,bed,motor,interior. he wasn't able to identify the trans but was going to contact a couple of people that could possibly help. i'm also in contact with the Chicago northwest railroad historical society and exchanging info with them. the truck really messes with people when they look at it.
