What is available and what have you guys used, for oils in the trans (manual), T-case, and axles? I've pretty much decieded to use some kind of synthetic in the engine, at least in the winter. I have chrystal clear memorys of driving in sub-zero weather when I left the trans in 2nd for almost a mile because the shifter stick just did not want to move. All that cold gear lube must really be a drag on cold mornings DF

If I was you I would convert all my oils and grease to synthetic. I am a proud user of it since 1988. I wouldnt just use it for winter. Synthetics have a very high detergent levels which conventional oils dont. I used Mobil1 in all my engines, 1st to have synthetics in the 70's. Plus I used 15w-50 red bottle in -60f (with wind chill)and my truck started right up, instant oil pressure, unusual for conventional oils. I recently redid my 1978 F150 to total synthetics. Many european car companies require synthetic or you void the warranty.
Good luck Paul
PS I just recently tried Amsoil, friend has used it for many years, cheaper.

i agree with paul 100%,
i am using mobil 1 0w30 now, and am very happy with how fast the oil pressure comes up, even in below zero weather here in northern indiana.
i converted to all synthetic in an older 4x4 years ago, and was glad i did. the 4 speed transmission shifted much better in the cold weather. i even used the semi-synthetic wheel bearing grease in that truck.
i plan to switch over as many of the fluids as possible to synthetic in this newer truck this spring.(wheel bearings already have the synthetic grease).
anyone use synthetic atf in their automatic transmission in this year of truck???

Spectra, I dont really know anyone personally using synthetic ATF, However I know all BMW, AUDI come with synthetic ATF in there Transmissions. A friend of mine that owns a Tranny shop recommends it to all his clients who have a rebuild and tow alot. Hope this is a help.
I will put it in my personal truck soon, at 7.00 + a quart

Spectra, I know its expensive, however not as expensive as a rebuild. I am going to use amsoil. I been reading up on different products and it seem pretty good. It has been tested by many and so far, so good. By the way I am NOT a dealer however I buy some of there products from a friend who is. If your vehicle is choked up, I used there foaming top end cleaner and what a difference. GM makes something simular. Good Luck.

Use Synthetic in the engine, trans (what a difference you'll see) and the transfer case. If you can, use it in the differentials as well. Doesn't matter what brand. In extremely cold weather the difference will be phenomenal.
