ATF-Dexron vs. Type F

Concrete, Type F was used in most pre 77 Fords. Mercon/Dexron is used in all later model Fords. The dipstick should tell type to use. The two types are NOT interchangeable. Type F has different additives (called seal swell) to lube O-rings and seals in transmission. Sometimes if an earlier model tranny is rebuilt with later model soft parts, then the Mercon/Dexron is used. Hope this helps. Don
