Can I mix Type F and Mercon?
Ok, after reading the many posts about what fluid to put in what tranny, I realize I may have a problem. I just built a 460 and C-6 to go into my 73 Ranger. Being used to the C-4's in my Early Broncos, I just figured it would take Type F in the C-6. Well, this is what I get for assuming. The only Type F I put in the rebuilt C-6 was to fill up the torque converter. I have thought about draining it, but since the trans is new, I always thought there needed to be some fluid in the converter and pump to help prime it until the fluid in the pan was picked up. Can I just use Mercon to fill up the trans since there is only about a quart in the converter or should I drain it and risk the fluid not being picked up quickly, or at all?
Thanks guys, I have used your advice extensively in building this truck.

If it is only a quart or so, don't worry. The difference is that type F does not contain any friction modifier, and Mercon does.
B&M Trick Shift (conventional) fluid is just repackaged type F for "firmer shifts" due to the lack of friction modifier additive.
Anyway, the C6 is not a hyper-sensitive beast like the E4OD.
