just changed the oil cooler 2 wks ago and everything working fine but now whe i floor it then let off the gas pedal the truck turns off...put it in nuetral and it would start again but now it did the same thing but NO START AT ALL!!!! any suggestions??? i was thinking maybe the ipr valve but idk...no CEL or codes...help plz im outa town
Yes, the ipr valve is bad, when you pull it you will either find debris on it from the oil cooler change and/or the screen will be dented/crushed/missing, etc.
Ipr is under the turbo, on the hpop housing, sticking out towards the driver side. Remove ficm , rear valve cover bolt, and cac tube, or from the bottom, remove the heat shield and have a long extension or arms that are skinny. Its a pain in the ***. 1 1/4 or 1 3/8 socket I believe. Rails are under the valve covers, and STC fitting is under the turbo and under the hpop cover. You are going to have a hard time diagnosing this without the correct tools, or a scanner that can see ipr and icp pressures or percentages. To pinpoint hpop leaks you need some blockoff tools for the hpop rails, and a fitting to pressurize the system with shop air. Buy the ipr at an International big truck shop. Its $145 instead of $250 from ford. Where are you located?
thanks for the info matty...right now im located in corpus christi tx...im thinking it might be the ipr bcuz i think i might have damaged the connector a bit when trying to unhook the y pipe when i changed the oil cooler...can the ipr be cleaned or does it have to be replaced...thanks again for the help
Look at the connector for damage, or a wire pulled back in the plug. Look close. If you can get the ipr out easily, you will know very fast if it is damaged. Check the oring and the screen on the end. You may find the screen or the plastic broken from debris hitting it. If this is the case you can try cranking it over with the ipr removed. It will make a mess, but it can blow some crap out of the ipr hole. You WILL get oil all over the ground. Lay a rag over the ipr hole when you try this to catch some oil. And this is not the correct way of fixing this problem, but I had to do this once, and that truck is still on the road daily with about 12000 miles since the problem. Good Luck
sorry for asking so many questions on this guys but i wana fix it instead of towing it home i live pretty far...where is the ICP sensor located??? passenger of driver valve cover?? or is the ICP the same as the IPR just with a different name????
ok thanks again for all the replys, so i changed the STC connector and the only leak hear is coming from the HPOP shaft and according to the troubleshooting steps thats normal...and the screen on the IPR valve is pushed n kinda crushed and with a little tear in it...so does this mean i need a new IPR?
Something got run through the hpop and into that screen. Replace the ipr and I bet it starts. Do you have a way to watch ipr duty cycle while cranking, and checking hpop pressure at the icp port?
i checked the hpop pressure at the icp using a volt meter i understand im suppose to get .80 volts and all i got was .28 and no i dont have a way to check the ipr duty cycle
