Rev limiter
2001 Explorer Sport Trac with 4.0 motor. Drove to town and back yesterday with no problems. Then, I was just sitting in the driveway in park, and revved the engine up. It won't go past 3,000 RPM. Is this normal for this vehicle? Never mind. I did a search, and found out the computer limits the no load RPM. Thanks anyway. Great site.

Follow up to the rev limiter. If I am driving down the road, let up on the accelerator, and then push the accelerator again, there is a faint high pitched chirp (not the tires spinning). Could this be related to the rev limiter feature? I was playing around with it yesterday, and the chirp seems to appear around 3K. Anyone else familiar with this noise? It is faint, so if you have the radio on, you probably won't hear it. Thanks

I'd suspect either the belt (as mentioned above), an idler/tensioner pulley, or possibly a dry u-joint.
You wouldn't consider it a "honk-like" sound would you? Some Fords have TSBs on "honking" sounds from the intake air tubing.
