I just bought a 97 f 150 and the cruise and horn doesn't work.Is this just the clock spring and how do I check?
It's more than likely the clock spring. Those are symptoms that there may be a broken wire on it.The airbag light may illuminate too. If you decide to poke around in there disconnect the battery before you do it.
Turn the key on and the airbag light will illuminate for 6 seconds. It will then go out and come back on and probably flash 3 times and then pause and flash 2 times. It will repeat this code several times before staying illuminated constantly. This would be a code 32 which is a driver airbag code. This code almost always points to a defective clockspring which will also keep the cruise and horn from working. Once replaced (and it's fairly simple to do) the light will clear by itself. Nothing will have to be cleared by the dealer or scan tool.
