You gotta make sure you are using the correct size.
I was struggling to get the line on my Lighnting to release one time, with a release tool that fit, but as it turned out, was just a tad off. Once I realized I grabbed the wrong size release tool, I grabbed the correct size and it popped right off.
It's kind of like a Chinese finger toy. You gotta push the tool in at the same time you pull on the line to disconnect it.
Mine must be a different fitting. Found out that mine have a ring on the end of the fittine that you press in to release it over the lip. Either that or Im a dumb ***

That's the same exact connections that were on my truck. You're doing the pre-pump mod.
The fuel lines after the pump are a different fitting.
It came with a hose to replace the line from the pump to the tank. To get rid of the lousy connections that leak under vacuum.
I got another kit sitting on my shelf to do my dads truck when he runs the tank empty. I friend that borrowed my tool just notified me that he lost it. So i guess i have to go get another.. Loan out tools = Grrrrrrr..
Here is my complete (STOCK JUNK) line that ran from the pump and tank. I don't know why i am saving it. I forget what end belonged to the fuel pump and what end belongs to the tank.
Needed the tool for the first pic.
You got both ends off with out the tool? The fuel pump had the clip like your picture and mine with the white clip. But my tank i needed the tool (my top picture). Your 03 they must have changed it to both the clip style.
Checked my dads 2000. Which i have to do this to this weekend. Looks like i have to go get another tool (because it was lost by my borrowing friend) Dads has the same connection as mine at the tank. They must have changed it in the newer years of the 7.3
