Take a screw driver and push in on the plastic ring all the way around the quick disconnect and slightly pull the hose away. When you have the ring in far enough the quick disconnect will just pull away. I just put a new clutch and slave in mine without using the special tool. I dont know where your hose is located on the 88 but on a 93 the quick disconnect is on the side on the tranny and can be removed without removing the tranny.
Thanks a bunch. Actually after getting my truck on jack stands I was able to see what is going on. At the momment I still cannot get the hose off after pushing the white plastic thing back. May not be going back far enough.
Taking a break after being frustrated.
you can buy the tool at autozone, checkers etc for about $5. Beats the hassle of trying to make do with a screwdriver or something else. If you have the time and inclination you can make it out of a piece of scrap.

Ditto. I think mine was like $7 or something. It is still a pain on the 88'. I have the same one and I had to really get that white plastic ring down inside the sleeve to release the line. As you probably already know you have to disconnect the MC rod from the pedal in the cab, and it is also kind of a wierd position on the driver's side to try to reach and pull with either hand.
