Wait, I forgot to mention something. When I flushed my power steering, I accidently added some PS fluid to the brake resiviour. Just a little bit, maybe an ounce. Could this be messing things up?
Ok. yeah, it was really dumb. I had someone else turning the wheel while I was watching PS fluid come out. I was like "hmm, this is coming out, but the level isn't dropping." So I added some. Then I realized I was examining the brake resevoir, while the PS was being sucked dry. I wonder why I wouldn't have noticed it until today with the trailer.
Well, I was going to say the possibility of moisture in the fluid or contaminated fluid. I see we may have figured this one out. You sir, have some work to do.
Ok, I'm away next week, but I'll flush it when I get back. One more question (kinda dumb): should the truck be running while my assistant pumps the brakes?

page 101 of this has me real nervous. Could I have roasted seals all over the brake system? Sometimes it brakes completely normally, but sometimes it does what I described earlier.

Just flush the system. I read what you linked to. The flush is relatively cheap, although I went Dot4 tonight and went through a whole quart. I am not happy with the color coming out so I will run another whole quart through it tomorrow or the next day. Then you can see if the system corrects itself.
FWIW, I was able to suck out most of my MC with my mightyvac and used it to bleed the brakes. It works by itself. I didn't have to pressurize the MC. I am going to flush that thing until it runs completely clear even if it takes 3 quarts to get there.
OK, so an update. I brought the truck to STS. They said it was the MC, I didn't tell them about the PS fluid. So, I had them replace the MC and flush the system. I got it back today, and when I drove it away it seemed fine at first. No more pedal squish or bypassing. Then, I tested the brakes on an open stretch of road. I hit the brakes hard. The truck stopped, but when I went to accelerate again it felt like I had my foot on the brakes. The truck wouldn't break 5 mph, it was obvious the brakes were still applied. I pulled over, wainted a minute, and it was fine. This repeated 3 times, only on very hard braking, on purpose. I brought it back to STS, they're going to look it over tomorrow AM. Any thoughts?
