Me too, Craig. The Sheriff's office has apologized and admitted they screwed the pooch as recently as 2006. They got a tip from a neighbor that something fishy was going on at the house. The Sheriff sent a couple officers out who just spoke with the perp in his front yard, and never asked to look around the house or the back yard. They were not even made aware that the guy was on the sex offender list or was a parolee. First off, that's really throwing your officers into the Lion's Den, and the officers themselves didn't seem to take the tip seriously.

Howdy folks.

That station fire really took off yesterday afternoon - could see the smoke roiling up very clearly from the house. Wondering how close it is to the Angelus shooting range....

Morning Steve.

The fire is still pretty far east of the range. A few miles anyway. But it's only 5% contained, so it's anyone's guess how far it could go.

Not as hot today, Chris. I'm showing about 95°, low humidity. We're supposed to begin a cooling trend today.

AZ will start their cooling trend about, oh ... November maybe.

Albuquerque tonight, headed for Santa Fe in the morning. Temperature's nice here in the Valley of the Rio Grande. About 82 outside at 6pm local.

Truck and trailer performing flawlessly, though at the end of the long climb up I-17 to re-join I-40 I was silently wondering about the tranny temperature. Since it's a light tow, I wasn't overly concerned. If it were a daily trip, however, there would be additional cooling going in.

Headed farther east tomorrow afternoon.

Glad to hear it's going smoothly, Marv....you picked a good time to get away from here.

Hot and smoky out in the valley right about now

The smoke from that fire up near Acton is really spectacular......it looks like a huge thunderhead.

The southern edge is now threatening Mount Wilson. That's going to create some big problems if it burns up all of those transmitters.

Our dog-sitter called today to say that the smoke is pretty thick in the Valley.

When did we get a fire in Acton? It was slightly hazy when we went through there yesterday morning on CA-14.

The one that started above La Canada/Flintridge has burned up and over the hill.....same fire. Mandatory evacuations of Acton and Agua Dulce.

42,500 acres as of right now.

A couple of firefighters went over the side of the road in the smoke up on Mt Gleason and lost their lives.
