As I found out recently, you can't always trust instructions. Most of the time you can, but there are cases when its total BS.
Are you sure of how you reconnected the fuel lines to the selector valve? If you get them crossed the wrong way, it would cut fuel off to the engine.
I still think you should try and start the truck off a bucket of diesel first to make sure the fuel system under the hood is working. After you are sure the lift pump, filter, and injection system are working then you can move back to the rest of the truck.
