There is a small little box on the passenger side a/c box near the firewall under the insulation that has a vacuum hose connected to it. If you pull the insulation down and remove that little box the passenger side VC will come right off.
Well thanks for the tips, I will be going out shortly to get started. After looking closer at the glow plug packages i see that they do not say Beru, but they are motorcraft ZD-11's afterall.
How'd it go? I did the drivers side last night and it went pretty well, had to use a 13mm to get the valve cover off as well as a 10mm wrench for the aluminum thingy for the air intake, shoulda left that attached to the valve cover as those 2 o-rings under the breather were a royal pain to reinstall later! Make sure your 10mm deep socket for the glow plugs is a thin wall 1/4" drive or it won't fit between the injector and the pushrod/rocker. also on mine I couldn't keep it centered for complete removal of the GP and had to turn them a couple turns by hand to get them out because the socket was stuck under the rocker arm.... Hope to get the passenger side this weekend!
well things went real well as far as glow plugs are concerned. yeah CCV o-rings were a real PITA. but i think it would have been harder to get the valve cover off if i left it on.
Just a little tip for doing the pass side. the bolt on the far back for the valve cover can be a pain. After fighting with a universal joint/extention combo for awhile i gave the fancy stuff up. i took a reg 13mm socket 3/8" drive rachet and put the rachet handle behind the tranny fluid dipstick tube and there was plenty of room then. Oh yeah take the five seconds to remove the hose that goes from the intake manifold to the MAP sensor. And also take the 10 secs to unscrew that stupid ground wire that comes up from somewhere in the rear, behind the MAP and attached to the firewall and push it down out of the way. that'll give you a lot more room to work.
Wednesday i did the driver's side and thursday i started the passenger side but got 'angry' and quit. I knew the harnesses on the out side were melted and needed replaced, but had hoped that the VC gasket and the two UVCH where still good. Oh no, that would take good luck. So now i am stuck waiting on parts. They should be here tomorrow.
OH and just so everyone knows you all had me scared of the pass. side, but to me it was a helluva lot easier than the driver's side. Thanks for all the advice and I can post some pics up tomorrow or sunday if anyone would like.
