Ok tomorrow after i get my wisdom teeth pulled I am going to replace the glow plugs in the ol' girl. So what specs do I need to know? And also any tricks or tips would be good. I've never had the VC off and i know that they can be somewhat of a PITA, but i heard awhile back that was some special trick to getting them off.
Well it may be wednesday when i get around to it, well see. LOL. My father-in-law was eatin a Big Mac an hour after gettin his pulled. I'm hoping to top it with this.
I just used a 1/4" 10mm deep socket and prayed that they would come out without breaking. Don't force them, I've heard horror stories if they break off and fall in. Use anti-seize on the new ones when you put them back in.
I honestly love my truck! Its perfect size to go wheeling in, mudding, climbing in, and it pulls my trailer just fine... now if only it had more power and a 4 inch lift (both of which are coming). I do kinda want to get a crew cab just to beable to drive more than two others around with me... and I used to think white looked gay on trucks, but now I love it... maybe because mine is normally covered in mud... IDK.
cowmilker, as long as they say beru on them they are fine. use a 13mm swivel socket and either a 3" or 6" extension in 3/8" drive for your vc bolts. the back ones are a little tough but the swivel should make it easier. you will have to remove the ac dryer (2 bolts) to get the pass side vc off. use 10mm deep with a 3" extension in 1/4" drive for the glow plugs.. might have to play with the extension to keep it away from the push rod/rocker arm from binding against the socket. GO VERY SLOW in removing the old ones. if you feel bind-age...STOP!spray with your favorite boob lube. repeat. try not to sweat this. youll be fine. JUST TAKE YOUR TIME. just like glenn said, coat new ones with never sieze; install to 14 ft. lbs. make sure all your electrical connections are on and no burnt pins while youre in there.
maybe throw a set of injector o-rings on while your in there? not sure how youll be feeling with your teeth. wish you luck let us know how it goes.
You don't have to remove the ac dryer but it helps to make room. I used the 1/4 inch swivel, did a hand stand, bent my elbows, flexied my butt, swore and it came right out lol.
