so i just went up to the lake that is drained. broke a u joint in the front drive line. no fun. had to get out of the hole and back up the side of the lake in 2wd very fun lol. now my check engine light is on but i don't think it has anything to do with 4900 rpms coming out of the hole. lol. puttin a new u joint in and headin back up tomorrow. lol.
Those are awesome looking tucks. Anybody here run a cb?<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/29624902@N03/4260883019/" title="DSC01145 by nathan.mullin, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2667/4260883019_ff8f887d2f.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSC01145" /></a>
Thats my antenna and for reference I'm 6 foot and my chin is just above the level of the top of the box. Tonight I was able to pick up my buddies from 12km of 7.5mi away. I had to have the truck off and could barely make them out. Where it first becomes clear is about 5km or 3.5mi. There are redneck installations, my antenna is actually taped to the roof. Anybody got any numbers on distances they can receive and send.
More on topic now I went wheeling tonight to some degree. Managed to hit a bump real real hard (both my front end and rear got air) and now every time I hit a bump I get a bad u-joint sound. But I don't think it is a u-joint... Heres comes some fun.
yeah you can see i have an antenna on each side mirror, my truck came with a cb, but those antennas are def not long enough, i only pick up signals from a few miles away, maybe a lil more on the highway, will get some new big ones soon hopefully
CB range depends on antenna mostly.
You all have some pretty awesome trucks.
Ihijtswifl, do you have a name? That username is a pain in the *** to type lol. Copy and paste for the win. That truck looks damn good, you should level it though. Front end looks quite a bit higher.
Tbenks, i'm sure you'll be pretty satisfied with the tire upgrade. You have no idea how surprised I was when I ran my first Super Swamper lol. I think anyone going from an all terrain to a mud tire will like it lol.
haha yeah name is chad. ihijtswifl is what my brother made me for a email cause im not to computer savy and in the pic its parked on a hill it sits very level ill take some more pics.
hey tbenks if you have both cb antennas in use you might try unplugging one of them might pick up some range...i have read hours on CBs and still have NFC how they work...but i do know dual antennas only work well when there is a larger distance between them (like on big rigs they work well) but on pickups they are too close together and it makes the range of the CB more of an oval shape then a circle...thats all i could figure out about those damn things...know how to use/install them, but i have no idea how they work LOL
Yeah there is very little information about them. I know that the dual antenna setup is used by truckers because it is intended to be more of an oval range in order to pikc up more users from the highway ahead and behind them rather than off to the sides where yhey will loose contact quickly. You are correct though that a pickup truck does not really have enough distance between them to work the best. I spend a lot of time on it nowadays, so I'm slowly learning more, partly through trial and error.
