Amsoil....hmmm.........

I've been searching around the net, looking for a place to buy Mobil 1 from (I'm looking for those big 5 qt jugs) and so far, every website I've seen that claims to sell motor oil, is an Amsoil dealer. Every one of them. No mobil to be found, just glowing reviews and (semi)outrageous claims by Amsoil proponents. I still find it odd that I can find 20+ websites selling Amsoil but not one retail store selling it....seems like the obvious progression.

At any rate, where can I buy Mobil 1 online? I'm planning on converting my motor, transfer case, and transmission over to synthetic in the next few months here.

Amsoil....hmmm.........

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 28-Oct-02 AT 06:03 PM (EST)]I found the same problem when I was doing research. I think the answer is that Mobile 1 has a retail distribution channel, and Amsoil doesn't - relying on word of mouth and websites to reach new people. I personally would consider using Amsoil, but the price and hassle to get some didn't seem worth the marginal improvement in performance.
Edit:
I don't know where you can find the large bottles online but why do you want to order online? Do you live somewhere that is hard to get M1?

Why buy mobil over the internet? It is sold in every store.
If you by it over the internet you have to pay extra shipping because it is considered a hazardous material.

Good points, guys - M1 is sold everywhere here, but I'm...how do you say.....lazy?

Nah, I was all hot and bothered about getting one of those rockin' 5 quart jugs....

I'll just end up buying a case down at Pep Boys.

thanks for the insight, though.

Hey, Matt. Do you have a WalMart anywhere around where you live? My nearby WalMart didn't have the 5 quart jugs so I request it. Within a week it was on the shelf and for the most part it has remained there. I confess I was afraid that they would discontinue it (plus they put the tri-synthetic on sale for $14.33 for five quarts) so I loaded up on it. My wife thinks I'm a nut. =:0

Check Walmart. They sale Mobil one and from time to time they stock it in the 5 quart jugs.

I have found it in 3 local Walmarts for $17.88 a 5 qt. jug. That's a great deal on a high quality full syn. I have always used dino oil, but the 5w20 spec in my '02 Ranger caused me to look at syn. M1's 5w30 is nearly 20 weight on the SAE scale at operating temp. so I am trying it. So far the motor runs and sounds great and fuel mileage is identical to 5w20 dino.
