In the mornings or when my truck is cold,I start it and it fires off but then it bogs down and barely runs, once the motor warms up, it runs great, let it sit for about eight hours and the same thing happens. Any thoughts would be great. Also when the motor is cold and I turn on the key I hear like a buzzing sound for 1-2 seconds(maybe the fuel pump?). But when it is wamed up the buzzing sound last for about 5-6 seconds. I'm thinking my problem is that the fuel system is losing prime but I have changed fuel filters, drained the fuel/water separator,It is a 2004 6.0 and i also cleaned the battery termainels, i think it might be the glow plugs if so is there a easy way to check this and i thought about plugging the truck in to keep the motor warm any thoughts. last night i plugged the truck in and this morning the truck started up. now i am lost any ideas.
Make sure you have the latest flash, That will fix most cold start issues.
Run 5-40 synthetic oil with ford filters, change at recomended intervals.
If you are still having cold start issues, Hot Shots Secret most of the time will fix injector stiction problems, And if it does not help Gabe will give your money back.
I have an 03 6.0 and it does a similiar thing it starts fine when it's cold but stutters if you don't let it warm up for 3-5 minutes. It will smooth out after a mile or so. Ford had it for 2 months and couldn't figure it out, even had engineers fly in and they couldn't. Their answer was "It's just cold blooded let it warm up"" Runs fine when the weather is 50 degrees and warm though.
injector spool valve sticking. That is the most likely problem. It is run by the hpop. Gets sludge built up an dosent work right when cold. You can try hss, but it didn't work for me. I would start saving up now for injectors if I were you. Like what was said before running syntheic 5 w40 will help too. That is what I do. Make sure you change your oil at or before 5000 miles too. These trucks are picky when it comes to serviceing them

Flash, there are running changes to the computer code that runs the truck. Like windows patches. You take it to the dealer and they will upload the new "flash" for you. Most charge a hour of labor for it.
you cannot "fix" the spool valve, you can replace the injector. Hot Shots Secret is a oil additive that clean out the varnish and sludge. If it is just sludge HSS will fix it, if there are mechanical issues it can not fix that. If you try it and it does not work he will refund you.
There is a small spool valve in the top of the injector that controls the flow of high oil pressure fed to the intensifier piston in the fuel injector. That spool valve only moves .017", back and forth, on and off every time the injector fires. Many factors play in to how well that valve works such as, oil temp, oil quality, normal wear, ambient temp, and many others. As this valve ages it polishes itself inside the bore of the spool valve and as the spool valve slams back and forth it can set up the condition like a suction cup, hanging the valve to one side or the other. This uncommanded uncontrollable condition is called stiction. Mostly its a rough run cold condition but in severe cases it can be a no start or pretty harsh misfire condition. Oil that stays inside the valve on a hot engine shutdown and is allowed to cool slowly in the injector can aggravate the condition on restart, so the newest reflash uses inductive heat after shutdown to keep the oil warm, keep its viscosity low, and maximize the oil flowability to purge the oil from them. It is an excellent preventative measure.
Personally, I feel that synthetic oil is also a big help preventing stiction.
The reflash sounds good i just called Tomball ford and its 100.00 to run the dtc on it then 206.00 to do the reflash. I might change the oil to synthetic 5w40 rotela first to see if it helps i have 6500 miles on it since my last oil change before i spend 350.00 to make it to payday, And does anyone know where in houston i could buy the hot shot oil lubrication.
