2004 powerstroke 6.0

I have a 2004 powerstroke 6.0 that is starting to give me problems. I have 146000 miles on it. The problem is that when I start the engine and drive for awhile it will sometimes excellerate on its own like it just got a shot a fuel and when I stop the truck it will sometimes idle down and start missing and shaking the entire truck. I can turn it off and restart it and the problem goes away for awhile and then will come back. It sometimes revs up the engine when you are stopped at a stop light. Here's the kicker, it doesn't do it in cold weather. As long as the weather is below around 50F, it has no problems. When the weather warms up the engine starts its rough idleing and engine rev ups. There is no change in the exhaust color and there or no mods to the engine. One website says it may be ICP or IPR sensor. Not sure what this does. Can anyone shed any light on this issue?

The ICP sensor, Injection Control Pressure, needs replaced.

Write-up on the ICP sensor is in the tech folder at the top of the page. Read through it and learn to love it.

Also a simple search would have brought up numerous threads on the above symptoms.

Thanks, I will check in to it. I did locate the sensor. Looks like it would be easy to replace.

Thanks again.

Definetly a later 04'. ICP is located on the valve cover. I'm not getting any codes on the sensor. Should I go ahead and replace it or maybe the wiring plug to it? The only code I get is on the cam sensor. (P0341) The problem is it doesn't do it all the time so I'm having a problem diagnosing it. Sometime surge, sometimes it don't. Sometimes it idles really rough, sometimes really smooth.

Check the CAM sensor wiring harness for oil or for wire chaffing.

There is some oil between the EGR and the Turbo. Can't tell exactly where its coming from. Could be from the Turbo hose? Its been dripping off the bell housing but I just can't pin point it. I need to wash it down and then check it again. Where's the cam sensor located on the later 04'.

Thanks again fellows for the great info on the Transmission Fluid Temp sensor and wiring harness. Fixed my transmission problem myself and saved a few hundred bucks. 6.0 is back on the road!

My 04 does the same thing. I was told to change the ebp sensor, so I did and the problem was gone for about 2500mi. It has come back once but thats it. I had no codes Just took a 400+ mi trip and ran like a champ. Before the trip I had to get new batteries, the reason I bring this up is I have read in other treads that the ficm is very voltage sensitive. I sware it runs like a different truck since the batteries.

I'll do some research on the EBP. How much was the part?

Toreador Diesel, I don't live far from you. I'm about 40 miles NE of Beaumont. If you think you could help diagnos this problem, I would appreciate it.

If I remeber it was around $95 at the dealer. I don't belive that was my problem, but may have been a factor. You got me thinking on the air temp thing, I think mine was getting worse as the out side temp whent up. I towed my 11,000 pound rv this past weekend and it was 73 here in Michigan and the truck ran perfect I still think it has to do with the new batteries. By the way went with the Yellow top optimas.
