pick up in the distributor

pick up in the distributor

Does anyone no if there is a trick to getting to pick up out of the distributor on a 95 F-150 302 auto. I got everything off, but I can't get the top peice off that I need to get the pick up out and I don't want to break it. thanks

You have to remove the drive gear with a puller and then it will slide off the bottom.

If you're referring to the reluctor wheel (spoked wheel atop the mechanical advance unit) use two large screw drivers with tips placed under the center portion of the reluctor (not the spokes, they'll break) and using the distributor body as a fulcrum, gently pry the wheel upward. Pay attention to the drift pin in the indexing slot of the distributor shaft. Its' job is to maintain indexing of the reluctor on the shaft, and it is only a slip fit between the reluctor wheel and the alignment slot. The reluctor should lift without too much force

I appreciate it, but I'm not going to worry about it right now. I pulled the PCM out and it smelled burnt on the inside. I've replaced everything else so I going to replace my PCM next. Thanks
