Change 292 to 312

I have a 60 Ford p/u with a 292. Could someone tell me what the difference is between the 292 and 312? I know that it's the same block...I was thinking it was just the heads and crank. Can someone tell me what I need to do to turn my 292 into a 312?

the 292 and 312 are the same exact engine just different stroke cranks and journal size is how I understand it. maybe slightly larger bore but I have seen people push a 292 out to 312 cid.

You obviously can do what you want, but keep in mind that parts for a 312 are much harder to come by and are more expensive, you might consider just renewing the 292. By the time you put +0.040 or +0.060 pistons in, it will be over 300 cu in anyway.

Food for though.

Another option is to have John Mummurt build you a stroker kit for the 292 up to 338. See this site for more info.

Thanks a lot. After reading up on the 292...I think that's what I will do.

Another thing is the 292`s didnt have the same problem as the 312 which is why you cant find many. They are very prone to fractures on the main cap webbings with the larger journal size. The 292`s didnt have that since they had more "meat" there. But the 292`s I have seen can be done up great. Same as the 312, guy on youtube has a 312 that he punched out to like 340 cubic inches but I dont know hes the same guy that told me never to run synthetic oil in a old Y block cause it wears everything evenly and these old y`s like to have valve train wear unevenly is how I take it.
