Every time I start my truck I have the same consistent chirping or squeal noise and cannot figure out where it is coming from? I have replaced the alternator, the tension pulley assembly, the single pulley that sits front top and center and the belt (<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comffice:smarttags" /><st1:City w:st="on"><st1lace w:st="on">NAPA</st1lace></st1:City> now)… what next? Water pump? How can I isolate the noise? My mechanic swore it was the tension assembly after using a stethoscope on it…NOT! Help!
2000/F350/4X4/AC/7.3L/single alternator ~ pain in the ****!
Take the belt off, start the truck and make sure the noise is not there with the belt removed. Then start playing with the pulleys to see if anything feels funny. After that you might try a shot of wd-40 on one pulley at a time to see which one stops the noise (wear safety glasses if you spray with the engine running).
WD-40 won't fix the problem for very long, but will let you know which part needs attention.
Did it start before replacing the belt? I once replaced a belt and a couple weeks later it started chirping. I repaced the belt again and and all was good again, guess I just got a defective belt.
