Those guys do good work. I have one of their engines in my 65 Mustang.
I want a motor that I can get locally and have installed locally, so I can have any warranty stuff done without having to pull the motor and ship it back or go to whatever shop the company wants me to go to etc.
It doesn't matter as much on the Mustang, because its not my daily driver. The F150 is my daily driver and I would rather do it locally.
I don't want aluminum heads because I hear of problems with towing. Im also not interested in running headers etc on my truck. I'm just trying to keep in in nice condition and keep it reliable.
Bill, I'll keep you up to date about what I find out.
I probably wont do a cam or headers. Definitely not headers. I actually tried that twice. The first pair from BBK did not fit worth crap and the second set of headmans were defective.
I also think that adding a cam will void the warranty.
I do have JBA headers on my Mustang and they fit great and are made well.
I found on my Mustang that the more you upgrade the more you have to modify. My Mustang is the toy.
I would like to keep the truck mostly stock just for simplicity.

I understand what you are saying Ty and I'm the same way. I prefer to keep things simple.
I'm like you. I want a stock replacement that makes the same power and the same realiability. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread but if you don't post your findings here, send me a PM. I just want to know where to buy a realiable long block if I cook mine (or whatever. you never know how these things can go).
Im tempted to. I was thinking about getting a 302 and building it. 300 horse for a 302 is nothing. I could have more than twice the power to the rear wheels than I have now with a motor that is no more heavier than the I6 I have.
I'll probably just stick with the six banger though. Whatever they aren't, they are bullet proof.
Besides Chris, I'm waiting on you coming over so we can do that 4-BT Cummins swap with me.
Over 300 foot pounds and 130 horse. Twice the power and fuel mileage. I would suggest the 6bt but I don't think my suspension could handle it not to mention fitment issues?

itll fit, trust me. If some yahoo can fit a viper v10 into an acura integra, a 6bt f150 shouldnt be hard. Use f250 coil springs.

So what are these problems you hear of with aluminum heads and towing?

it sounds like a good ole internet myth if you ask me. Seeing as almost all new vehicles and gas engine trucks are utilizing aluminum heads nowadays...

I have known a few people that have had 350 chevys that have had aluminum heads and one guy that had a 351 with aluminum heads. They all worked their trucks fairly hard and didn't treat them very nice, so that could have been part of the problem. The motors didn't last long while towing boats and work trailers etc. I think it was because of the excess heat created by towing. They had blown head gaskets and over heated. I always figured it was because of the 2 different types of metals.
I also just think that a higher horse power motor while it would be more fun will not last as many miles. I don't hot rod my truck much at all anyway.

I guess it could be a myth. I don't plan on running headers on the truck so I really don't see the point of having aluminum heads on it.
