I recently got my f250 king ranch powerstroke in october and fell inlove with the beast. Most days i just open the hood and admire trying not to experiment with the engine cause I dont know what i am doing. Whats the best way to learn the basics of deisel mechanics and my engine? I plan to go to college for deisel engineering one day but thats not for a couple years.
05' 6.0L V8 only aftermarket would be rims mud terrains and a magnaflow four inch exhaust. First question: Ive black smoked maybe three times, but how can you increase the black smockage?
Oh, and thanks for the confermation of my join. This is my type of community.

You will need to add more fuel with a chip/programer.
yes sir 6.0. I dont want to roll coal, but just blacksmoke mostly during intense acceleration. I was just wondering any way, i rather have some more horses right now. speaking of a chip, i hear alot of contraversy(how ever you spell it) about whether it voids your warrenty. My friend and Line-x said it wont cause the dealer cant tell that you had one on if you take it off when you bring it to the shop. Though another good source said that the ford dealer now has a way to find out if you used a chip even though settings get set back to factory.
Welcome to FTE. First off, if you want to learn about the 6.0, scroll down a little further in the main forum listing and you'll find the 03-07 6.0 diesel section. You'll find more info than you ever imagined about your engine down there.
Next, yes a chip CAN void your warranty if it was the cause of the failure. There's some gray area here that's open to interpretation in regards to what caused what, but you need to know that if the Ford area rep comes to inspect your truck (if it blows up) he will have access to a laptop that can plug into your PCM (computer) and tell if you've had a chip or programmer on there. The 6.0 was the first Ford diesel engine with this capability.
Beyond that, you need to better understand where the weak links are with the 6.0 before you start adding power to it. Intake, exhaust, gauges are the basics, but you also need to look into the kind of power you want and research headstuds, EGR, and other issues so you do things in the right order.
You could not of put that any better thanks. And thanks for the welcoming, i love this place. Alright, i read deisel power magazines and love them, ill take a look at the forum home page. If you were in service i just want to say thanks by the way.
