so my new 2" auto spring leveling kit arrived in the mail. I have not installed it yet just waiting for some free time along with a shop that can do the wheel alignment. For those that have installed the leveling kit what were some of your concerns before the install. Also were your concerns correct or just mere worry. Some of my concerns are warranty (although my dealer told me it should not cause a problem), fuel mileage, the front end being higher than the rear ( i really don't want to start adding blocks and so on and so on), vehicle wear speeding up. Please guys let me know if i am just worrying to much and also feel free to provide pics. Pics always seem to help a guy get an idea of what the finished product might look like.
Warranty - the most they can void is the Ball joints.
thanks to the Magnuson - Moss Act, the Dealership can only void specific portions if you do aftermarket...and they must prove that your actions caused the failure
Bull Dog Look - 2" shouldn't be an issue. if so, a 3" block to replace your OEM 1 5/8" block is $129 shipped (from Autosprings)
Wear 'n Tear - Not really an issue IMO
all a leveling kit does is change the angle of the upper/lower ball joints slightly.
nothing in the front end rotates while you are in 4x2 mode...so nothing gets worn out there.
Your CV joints don't rotate, so no increased wear due to the extra angle.
you might...and I stress might lose some life in your ball joints. I ran my 2.5" leveling kit for 20,000 miles with 0 issues. I know guys pushing 60,000+ miles with them and no problems.
a bigger, and more important factor is going to be the roads you drive on. Crappy surfaced pothole covered roads induce early ball joint failure. I was lucky enough to have some smooth sailing
I maybe lost a tenth or two of mileage. Big tires will kill your mileage more than the lift. I have maybe lost one mpg with my 35s. My mileage figures aren't too accurate though as I have only driven a few thousand miles at each stage. I also don't care too much about fuel economy so I don't monitor it real closely. Also the lift will hurt your highway mileage but not city, so depending on how you drive you may have little to worry about.
The stance of your truck will depend on your preference. I have the 2.5" and I am definitely in need of a rear block.
Now stop worrying, install it, and post some pics.
If you are mostly towing with the truck would you not do a leveling kit? Just envisioning how the front end would be way up in the air while the rear sinks down for the trailer tongue weight.
as long as the load is positioned correctly then it wont look to bad. i towed a carhauler with my brother truck on it with my 05 and we put the truck on the trailer so that it didnt pick the front of my truck up to bad. but it towed just fine. if your going to have to heavy loads, get some level airbags for the rear. thats what i have planned on doing.
thanks for the input guys, I plan on putting the kit on tomorrow at work if there is time and if not then it will have to be next week. Has for towing, I really do not tow that much. My buddy and I are looking at getting a trailer in the future to haul our goose decoys in but other than that maybe a snowmobile or atv in years to come. I just wish I had more of an idea of how it would turn out, but I guess i will have to wait and see.
