Hey,ford1977owner.
Welcome to FTE!
800.00 seams like a steal to me.
If the truck really has a 351ci in it,and its original,it will be the 351-Modified.
Could be a 400? (That is if its not a 351M,which looks very similar to the 351M,and is the same block?(or so I've been told-I was told the diff between the 351/400 is smog equipment on the 400ci)
Why don't you post pictures and the specs of the truck in your avatar? (Which is your dad's truck)
I am glad The Younger Generation (My Generation) is interested in preserving the old classic iron.('73-'79 Are the last of the real trucks)
Thanks.
I was told the diff between the 351/400 is smog equipment on the 400ci)

I think he was referring to the quote made above regarding the differences between the 351m/400. Off the top of my head, the 400 has a longer stroke - I'm sure others here can go into much more detail than I can...
Now you're giving out bad advice... EGR is smog equipment.
Josh
LOL, I didn't say 400's didn't come with smog equipment - I said "my" 400 doesn't have smog equipment...
The EGR was removed and blocked-off by the PO Engine seems to run fine without it... Unless you consider the PCV valve smog equipment, I have none I probably should've mentioned that in the first place so, yeah, my bad there...
Yah,
__the 351M is special.
First, it has a 400-sized crank in it.
Two if I remember correctly, it had the clevland heads installed @ the factory. (or winsor heads, cn't remember.)
& not least, the block was desined from scrach.
Ford engineers went weird with that engine.
P.S. the cranks were known go bad, due to a poor oiling sys.
Some blocks were able to go for long time. Others didn't fair so well.
It is just a matter of maintaining & not pushing it for long periods.
I still think these are still great engines, they just need some minor tweeks.
.
He said that the difference between the 351M and the 400 is "smog equipment." Nothing could be farther from the truth. The difference between the two engines is displacement as a result of the 400 having a longer stroke. Smog equipment is common to both engines, depending on the year. This conversation is ridiculous and a waste of everyone's time, hence me telling this (very young) individual to stop posting incorrect information. I'm not about to accept technical information from an individual that is not even old enough to drive. I think it's great if a young person wants to appreciate classic vehicles, but this particular individual has a long reputation on FTE for spam and generally getting on people's nerves so excuse my intolerance.
