Gold is "semi" ELC -- it's 150k coolant and requires no additive, but it's a Hybrid OAT (organic acid technology) and has some SCAs in it. The red stuff (and there are other colors too) is good for at least 300k, some (like Delo) is good for like 600k and is full OAT coolant. I like the full OAT coolant since there are no SCAs in it. Do a good flush, get the old stuff out, and go with red. It'll last a nice long time...
Check Napa for Final Charge concentrate. It's the same as Rotella, and good for 300k, then another 300k with an additive.
I had changed my upper hose out to the one that goes around the belt a while back. I bought the lower hose, t-stat, housing, distilled water, and Rotella ELC for about 140 bucks. I got all my stuff from NAPA and Auto Zone.
A truckstop or big truck dealer will have what your looking for and suprisingly it was a good price, got my CAT ELC their, 4 gallons came to about 60.00 here..IMHO, I would do the stat and housing and be done with it, if you got a 100,000 on it, its due anyways..
I just did this about 2 weeks ago. Truck is 2002 and came with gold coolant. Everyone here carries 50/50 ELC so I went with Zerex G-05 Gold. I couldn't get the block plugs out so I drained, changed both hoses and around belt top hose with worm clamps. Removed stat and replaced OEM housing, flushed with tap while running. Then multiple DI flushes. Then installed 203 stat with new billet housing and bolts. Degas bottle runs slightly lower than min, but steady at that level.
Watch the T stat housing bolts. They'll fit right in the pully on the water pump if dropped. Don't ask how I know.
