Who has installed a flip down monitor/DVD player on their "X"? I am looking to get a 12" combo unit and mount it where the rear A/C controls are.
Just looking for some tips or warnings.
When I bought my X, the prior owner had it installed already. Only tip I have is to keep it within a reasonable size. I have a 15", which sound great, but 15" pretty much blocks 70% of my rear vision. You may want to mock up the size and see how it looks from the driver's point of view.
I tried to put a 15" in my excursion, but it was to much to fab a mount for the contours of the rear A/C vents. It has a slope. So Ijust went with a 10" and it fits perfectly.
I am getting a 12" but I plan on mounting it half on the slope in front of the rear A/C controls. I will end up removing the rear A/C controls and covering that hole. I think I will be OK with the trim ring on the interior side of the headliner (The kit I am getting comes with an extra piece to trim. My concern is building a support for it on the roof side of the headliner. I think I will be OK.
I am mainly just looking to see if anyone has pics or tips on the support side or if anyone has seen a direct fit console for this roofline. I can only find the stock console that will only house a 7 or 8 inch screen.
