OEM DVD NOT WORKING

My 05 Excursion Eddie Baur has a overhead DVD player with the lower console radio. The dash radio works fine, console radio works fine, but DVD player is not working, when I flip the screen down nothing happens, dash radio not even recognizing it. It is like there is no power going to it, can not find any fuse for it.
Dealer says that when they go bad they just quit working to just replace it.

Any advise?

Has it ever worked? Does anything happen if you try to insert a DVD into the player? Just flipping down the screen doesn't turn it on.

I found this thread. Hope it might help. I installed an aftermarket one in my 04 and it works pretty good.

Yes it did, I bought the truck in April 2009 and used the monitor several times, and then on 3 trips, it was on the last 3rd trip getting ready to return home it would not come on, like there is no power to it.
On this one it does come on once you flip the monitor down if you have the radio on, it has a blank screen, then once you load a DVD it changes the radio from music to the DVD, and plays, at least that is how it worked from the time I got it. On the radio there is a button marked CD, you push it once and get the 6 CD player, push it a second time and it says DVD if the screen is in the down position this switches all controls to the DVD as far as volume, everything else is controled from the DVD player or the remote.

You must have a different unit than what was installed in mine. Flipping the screen down didn't power on my factory unit - you had to change the front radio to DVD or insert a DVD which automatically changed it to DVD.

Mine was already aftermarket when I bought it and it didn't work without freezing up. I replaced it with another aftermarket one, and it works now. I have it wires for use with IR headphones. I don't have to have the radio tuned to a station for it to come on. But I am also using an RF modulator to play through the speakers if I tune to a certain station.

Mine could also be turned on that way too, problem is when you push the CD button 1 the CD comes on, Push a second time and the DVD comes on, but now the DVD is not working when you push the CD button it does not switch from CD to DVD.
It is like it has no power.

I looked through my information again hoping to see a fuse or something which would affect just the rear DVD. It plugs directly into the back of the front head unit and as far as I can tell pulls power directly from there. The rear seat audio controls are part of the loop as well. I'd try pulling the radio and removing and connecting the plugs there to see if something may have come loose or may have corrosion. I'd do the same thing to the rear audio controls - pull up on the cupholders and you'll gain access to the pocket underneath and see the board and connector. If all head unit controls function and the rear cargo set of speakers work that would point to the DVD itself being bad. I wasn't able to get it to power on directly without using the front head unit so my abilities stop here.... good luck.

OEM DVD Player disabled

We have a 2005 Ford explorer Eddie Bauer Edition and the dvd player stopped working after we changed out the Alternator. When we push the Aux button it says no Aux audio and when we switch it to DVD of Video of says that it is disabled. Any ideas on how to enable it again?
