hi there, i have a 2006 f-250 5.4, single rear wheel, about a year ago, had a problem where the passenger side rear caliper seized up, it was replaced under warranty, about 6 months later, the other side did the same and was also replaced under warranty, about 6 weeks after that the ohter side did the same thing again, i payed for that one and replaced the rubber line goin to the caliper, now about 2 months later the other side is acting up again, i'm at wits end in this thing, could the master cylinder be bad, maybe the booster or that electric thingy , any help would be appreciated, thanks
i really dont know what the cause of failure was, i didnt do the first two, just the last one, and it got so hot it melted the rubber around the pistons on the caliper
Yes, replace all the pins and boots. if they got hot before the boots probably cracked leading to the pins seizing. you can get a kit at most parts houses cheap with boots and pins. don't forget to clean out the slide pin holes good to, then regrease everything.
My '08 brake pads have some kind of clips on them that push the pads away from the rotor when you let off the brake, maybe you could try a set of those if they fit.
The 02 do too. My neighbor's excursion had the spring, but the shop that did the work installed them on top of the leaf springs. He's messed up some rotors and pads, but it hasn't caused a bad caliper yet.

Huh? the little springs are more like springloaded clips. it's just a clip like any pad clip but with a tab of bent over springsteel that is in theory suppose to bring the pads back away from the rotor. I just did a set yesterday in an '06. like they said, clean everything and get new hardware.
The ones I've had were spring wire bent into a horse shoe shape with the ends bent in. The wire ends inserted into the pads to keep them off the rotor.
