Did brakes and the LR caliper was hanging up. Redid brakes from caliper trashing rotor and replaced caliper last winter. (about 10 months and 10,000 miles ago) Caliper started hanging up about 1 month ago when hauling the cattle trailer. NAPA said it has a 1 year warrenty...with the recipet. Yeah right, I will never find that. He said replace the rubber hose bc that will colapse and hold pressure. Any other thoughts before I throw ANOTHET LR caliper on this thing?
Did you use high Temp teflon grease on the slide pins? It is a must on these.
The slide pins on the SD's are generally the problem. If you used standard grease it will not last long under the high temp the brake systems see. Also if you live in a high corrosion area the standard grease won't last. Just my .02 cents
Suprisingly the guy at napa is probably right, prob. have a bad brake hose. Also, any hydraulic components like a brake caliper should be replaced in pairs.
I did both calipers last time. I plan on doing both fronts on the next brake job. I will then alternate replacing calipers every other brake job. rears then fronts etc.
I did grease the pins the first time with the fancy high temp grease that came with my junky Hawk pads. I did not grease the NAPA ones as they came "ready to install" if China put them together properly...I suppose I could pull them apart and check the pins.
I called Ford and that 8" long rubber hose is $80!?! Not real sure if I should just throw one on. The guy at NAPA said if I had the same problem after replacing the caliper it is probably the hose.
