Fuel line disconnect tool
KD Tools
Is there a NAPA equivalent? How does the tool work?
Truck is 1996 F350 PS XL with a leak at the top of the tank under the cross-member. Once tank is off will see if it can be repaired. Are there O-rings in the fuel line connectors which should be replaced before I reconnect the lines?
Other project while I'm doing the tank is repairing a pinhole in the engine pan. Have been reading the various posts here about the repair and I think I'll give POR-15 a shot. Better than the $2200 the dealer wants for the job.
Am the second owner. First guy didn't stay ahead of the rust. Once these repairs are done I plan on undercoating frame & tank with Waxoyl.

I discovered the leak while backing down the ramp to launch my boat. Fuel appeared to be flowing from under the cross-member. I've run the tank down to below 1/8 full so I could more easily handle it to lower it down. Since everything under the truck is fairly rusted, I figured a leak in the tank under the cross-member would make sense since that area would hold moisture and road crap in there to fester. The rest of the tank appears to look good. Also, if the engine pan is rusted & leaking, the tank likely has the same disease.
Roentgeep, thanks for the tip... but since I want to do a thorough job with the frame undercoating, taking the tank off will help with access to that section of the frame...

Anyway, got them off and dropped the tank and lo & behold... there was a rust-out hole about 1" in dia. in the top of the tank under the mid-frame crossmember. The way the tank is shaped and how its tucked up hard under the crossmember, all sorts of road sand and misc. trash collected under there and held dampness... bad design since there's no way the keep the area clean and aired out. The rest of the tank's in good shape so I'll repair it with a few layers of 1808 glass cloth wetted out with POR-15. Once that's cured I'll double coat the entire tank with POR.
Cheers!
