I give up. I can't get the rear fitting on the fuel filter free. I have replaced the filter on my 1993 F150 5.0 4x4 w/dual tanks 4 times over 128K miles, but now the rear fitting is completely stuck. I have tried 2 different brands of the plastic tools, the K-D metal tool & a Snap-On plier-type tool. No luck, despite lubing, twisting, pulling like mad & much swearing. The front fitting comes free very easily. It's not like I don't know what I'm doing, I've done it enough times successfully in the past, I just think the little fingers in the fuel line fitting are worn or damaged.
I may need to replace the rear fuel line at this point. Anyone ever done this? It looks like a pain. I also wonder if Ford even services the part anymore. Any help or ideas would be much appreciated.
break off the end where it meets the filter, just bend it back and forth until it breaks off. then pull line down and it will be much easier to work on.
I thought about that, but didn't have the guts to try it. I assume you've done it? What typically causes these fittings to not release the filter? I really don't want to bust up the filter & still not be able to get it out, or mess up the fingers in the fitting so the new filter won't lock in place. Then I'm really hosed.
I had a similar problem on a 1996 Bronco, I was changing the fuel pump and could'nt get the pressure hose off of the sending unit. I ended up getting a couple of cans of brake cleaner and some weedwacker fuel line. I slid the weedwacker fuel line onto the straw on the brake cleaner and and stuck it in the fitting and just blasted away. After a couple of cans I gave it a hell of a blast with compressed air and it came apart. When I got it apart it looked like it was full of sand and dust so I think it was jamming up the fingers. Maybe it will help you.
