Well on sunday i changed my T-stat. Truck has 58K on it so it was time. I bought a 180 instead of the 192 that ford uses and according to the edge temp i'm running about ten deg's cooler i like it alot... Now that i'll be pulling alot in the summer months just a good peice of mind. Also i changed my anti. to 60/40 60 on the water side as water is a better cooler then anti... Anyone eles do theres and if so what are your thoughts?
Theory I was taught (when I was doing mods on the Mustang) is that there's a possibility that the computer will make changes because it does not see the motor running at optimal temp. Always ran cooler ones in the stangs and never a problem tho.
The PCM is going to see things running colder and most likely will enrich the fuel mix...might even keep things from ever going closed loop.
also, did you use a Aluminum Specific Anti-freeze? I highly recommend the one that says for "GM Vehicles"...it has the proper mix, and the anti-corrosion inhibitors
Mark, was there an issue for you to change out the coolant or t-stat, my '06 has about 50k too, I notice a big roar from engine each morning at startup that calms down after about 10-15 seconds

I'm wondering the same thing. My book gives me a LOT longer than 50k on the antifreeze. I looked at it when I bought it and it's either 100k or lifetime. Tylus is right (imagine that) about the temp on the t-stat. You're going to change your A/F mixture via the PCM.
If you are having cooling problems changing the t-stat may not be the way to go. May be pulling too much or too hard. Coolant cools better than water IMHO.
The engines of today need to be warm to run correctly, that is why they have a fast idle at start up so the cats get up to temp quicker.
If at all possible stay away from the GM DEX-COOL antifreeze. The coolant reacts with heat and air to chemically turn to sludge. If you get air in the coolant the sludge can do some nasty things. Not saying it willl do it all the time but i know from first hand experience in three GM vehicles. Faulty rad cap lead to air in the coolant system, which lead to clogged ports which lead to unwanted pressures trapped in certain areas, which lead to small leaks, which lead to a place to get more air sucked in which eventually lead to blown intake gaskets and coolant/sludge mixing with the oil and clogging the oil pump.
Dont be scared though, i think it was a big thing on the s-10 blazers. But go check out some of the GM boards Im sure you will find some info.
I use the stuff that you can mix with anything, so you know your covered.
Truck seams to be running fine.. I am still in the High 180's so i'll leave it at that for a while. And as for anti i used Preston anti (green)and i did use a bottle 1-gallon of distilled water. I never had a heat issue i just wanted the truck to be a few deg's cooler when pulling heavy loads. As for a loud roar in the AM when start up yes i have that as well. Will see. Thanks for all the in puts.. I like to here all sides of what ppl think.
I had a 97 s-10 blazer that the local farm supply store topped off the coolant with green, and we all know that the blazers had the orange coolant. That mix will turn to jello in the engine, and the whole cooling system. I had to Chemical flush the system 4 (yes FOUR) times to get it all out, and it still did not get it all. I sold it 2 months after this happened. It was terrible, It would just overheat for no reason after that happened. It wouldn't do it for weeks, then just a short trip through town, BAM, overflowing and boiling in the recovery tank. I kinda liked that truck. I never got another chevy after that though.
