I have a 2002 f350 with a auto trans which i believe to be a 4r100. I just recently purchased a dp tuner and like the tunes and performance but dislike the shifting its equiped with. The trans in in perfect shape not having ever towed anything at all it like and only having 80000 easy miles put on it. The DP tends to hit into gear way to hard almost like a slam sometimes. It shifts perfect in stock though. i know that jody is more into the tuning part and not the trans part which is why im asking if there is any company that sells a stand alone trans contoller for this truck . Such as ATS or BULLYDOG also any sites containg upgraded trans internal components would be helpful. If not what is the best option for me. I know that a firmer shift is better and what you want for towing or racing but i dont like when you let out the pedal it slams into gear to downshift.
You LET OUT of the pedal and it downshifts??? Something's up. Firmer shifts are better regardless of whether or not you tow. I put in the TransGo kit and when I had my DP reburned to match, it was awesome! You might consider putting in that kit then have Jody reburn your tunes. If you don't like the hard shifts, go with smaller holes in the calibration plate. But, I went almost as big as they suggested for our trucks and it's fast & firm, but not banging.
Also, have you talked to Jody about this? Give him a chance to make it right. I have the same year and the tuning & shifting is perfect now (albeit with Tony ).
I am sort of in the same boat,I am not totally satisfied with the way my trans shifts with the DP although it is better than stock
My next step will be a valve body from John Wood,Factory tech or BTS and have Jody tune for it
Best thing to do is add an upgraded valve body, and have Jody re-tune the chip and adjust the transmission settings to how you want them.
Keep in mind that with extra power from the chip, you'll want quicker and firmer shifts than stock, otherwise you get too much heat from extra slippage. At the same time, you don't want it to slam into gear. All that can be adjusted with tuning. Just talk to Jody and he'll get it right.
My next step was to ask Jody. I was just curious on some of you guys opinion. I was thinking about buying a ATS co-pilot considering that ATS has always been a leader in transmissions. When my trans frys i plan on buying the master overhaul kit from ATS with billet shafts and running the co-pilot anways. I have a guy at work that builds our alison 3000s and also does racing trans for various applications. If i wa rich i would spend the 6000 on the trans from them but not too many of us can afford that.
Oh yeah, $4200 is no small chunk either. It's just better than $6Kand he builds a GREAT tranny. Just do like what was already mentioned until you HAVE to have another, then when that time comes, give BTS a call.
Thanks for the info. But no one has still answered my question on the co-pilot. Are they a good controller? I would imagine they are considering its ATS. The controll shirting and converter lockup. Alnog with keeping it from locking up at lower speeds. Does anybody here run one?

Everything that can be done with the ATS controller can be done with a chip. Actually, much much much more can be done with a chip.
If you have a chip, it can be reprogrammed for any type of shift pattern. There is zero need for an aftermarket transmission controller.
The only thing that can do more than a chip in regards to transmission control is the PCS Controller. For $900, you can have 100% control over your transmission, completely separate from the limitations of the PCM.
Thats kinda what i was leaning towards. 900 is a little tooo much right now though for me. I thought the co-pilot was a full trans controller. Im glad someone told me that before i bought one. Guess the only thing i can really done then is call jody and tell him my issue. Someday i planned on buying sniper software and do my own tuning. Do they have tarns controller software too?

Yes Sniper will allow you to adjust transmission shifting.
Ok sounds good to me. I knew edge evolution you can adjust trans shifting but there tunes are not great for powerstrokes i know jodys are great thats why got the f5 and it is amazing the power difference i have. When he comes back from his vacation ill be contacting him about my issue im haveing
sorry to hijack but what about this guys.... my truck stock when i get about 45-50mph and it finally shifts out it drops from 2k down to about 1200 or so.. just like its falling off a cliff. no easing into it and i gotta lug it to get it up to 60mph. what yal think... normal?

No this is normal. Thats the way they shift. Sounds like you have lower gears too which will explain the 1200rpm drop. Get a dp tuner for improved shifting. For some reason or another i was experiancing hard shifts in my 2002 with the dp at first but now for some reson the hard shifting has gone away. Not sure way it left but anyways get a dp. I used to be a banks fan until the dp. Im learning too with Jody that he will help you make you truck what you want it to be. Not like banks or edge who only sell a product.
