Maybe, but they also have a 99 and 2000 V10 superduty utility bodies with the 4R100, towing the same trailers and have 180K on the origional trans.
I highly doubt that unless those trucks are just grocery getters. Something isn't kosher about that. Even bumping my hp to 508, my tranny still lasted a year before it needed a rebuild. There is no way that a 4R100 would be able to do that.
Customer came in complaining yesterday, 05 F350 King ranch with a utility bed on it crew cab V10. hauls construction equipment, etc. blew his 3rd trans in 50K miles.
If the guy isn't BS'n you (which he probably is) then there is something seriously wrong with his driving and or the loads he is pulling. I'd throw a BS flag at that.
The 5R110W is one bulletproof transmission. Look at all the transmission problems guys have posted about on this forum. 95% are 4R100 problems. Sure, like anything that comes out of a factory you're going to get an occasional bad one, and Ford did have a few problems with the earlier transmissions (which they corrected) but overall the 5R110W transmission is rated very highly, some even say above the much vaunted Allison transmission that the Duramax uses.
i like how you compared the torqshift to the allison redford. this is kindof why i started this thread. one of my buddies is a big jeep guy and also a ford guy, or so i thought. ever since his dad bought a gmc allison duramax, he feels that all fords are crap, especially the transmissions. the vehicles they had before the gmc were a 7.3 excursion and a 7.3 350. both of which had the 4r100. he thinks that ford has the worst trannys between ford, chevy, and dodge. i found this funny because the mechanic that works for my father had an 04 1500 dodge hemi and the tranny blew at 40k. he now has an 08 f250 5.4 and is very happy. i tried explaining to him that the torqshift is a great trans but he keeps telling me its crap. you saying that some say it's better than the allison made this a happy day
I was just told by Banks rep today that the Allison is only designed to handle 600lbs of torque while these new Torque Shifts are designed for 740lbs of torque. He said he has people with GM's calling weekly complaining that when they use the high tune that their tranny slips or some type of transmission problem, but Fords even on the high tune can handle all the power. I thought this was interesting as everyone always talks about how strong and good the Allision tranny is.
06 F-350 ex.cab 5.4 3.73 posi torqshift 4x4 37,000mi ,owned it for a year and all of oct. it did a 500 miles or so on logging roads at 2-15 mph bird hunting very happy with it alot better then the 4r100. Then snow plowing came and the truck is a tank but my honest opinion i cant get the tranny to shift up on up hill climbs where i want the engine to struggle per say so the tires dont break loose. now it might be the tires which i really think it might be. on that note i have it figured out how to do it manually now the serious problem i had and did not ever got completly figured out. when i hit a banking i throw it in reverse it would shutter so i called the ford dealer they said the trannie was clear of the snap ring so i called a bunch of dealers and they told me that there is like a six second delay so it doesnt blow up the trans. and i started talking to anybody who had a torqshift and they all have near the same problem so it just took some time getting used to. now on a positive note, i love the trans just driving it down the road its flawless coundnt be happier. Note: I plow 33 driveways 2 private roads one 7/10 mile and 1/2 mile and one small parkinglot and when plowing runs 4-6hrs straight and one heavy wet snow it ran 21hrs.
