UPDATE: on my 79

Had a local mechanic come down and look at the old girl, he rode in her and said its a fuel problem. "Either its outside the carb. or the carbs not big enough to handle the motor." (dont quite get that. lol)

But anyway, I went and got an adapter plate from a friend of mine, adapts a 2br. manifold, to a 4br. carb.

Mounted the 4br. hooked things up and it ran great!!! My brother tuned the carb by ear. lol then later on the mechanic came over and hooked up his vac. gage. It was getting about 16, then he tuned it a little better and got the vacuume up to 19. All I need is to install the manual choke cable and it will be awesome. Now I can start working on the rest of the truck.

it wasnt the original carb, actually, its the third 2 br. carb we've put on it, then just now, went to a 4br. somehow it made just enough difference to make the truck work. lol

Or the 2 br just needed a simple rebuild or tuning. Was it the same flow rate as the original?

I doubt the carb is too small when circle track racecars that are required to run 500 CFM 2 barrel carbs can still turn 7500+ RPMs and put copious amounts of power to the ground.

You just had a jacked up carb that was fixed by replacing it with another half-jacked carb.
