F1ZZ-6049-B cylinder heads
<CITE>My name is Lance Hogan and I primarily hang out in forum 41 (53 F100) & 51 (FE -390). I am searching for a set of F1ZZ-6049-B cylinder heads for a 302. What I can gather is that these heads where made for the 1991 Mustang, but I have been unable to locate a set. I have contacted many of the major cylinder head remanufactures and area salvage yards with no luck. Any guidance would be much appreciated.<O</O</CITE>

You have a typo in the part number, the 4th character designates the part type and since it is an engie part it should be "E". The casting number code is outlined here... Kelly hotrod - Ford Engines Page 4
The heads you are looking for a more commonly referred to as GT40 or GT40p, the table below shows what vehicles they appeared on.

Thank you for the quick response and information. I do see that the fourth character of the casting number should be an “E”, but NHRA tech spec sheet has the F1ZZ-B number under the cylinder head section (see <CITE>www.nhra.com/tech_specs/engine/blueprints/FORD-91T.rtf )</CITE>. I contacted my local Ford dealership with the F1ZZ-B number and they stated that the F1ZZ-6049-B was a cylinder head made for a non-cobra 1991 Mustang. The F1ZZ-B casting number was later superseded to F1AZ-6049-AARM.

I originally questioned if NHRA made a typo, but after talking with a few more Ford dealerships which confirmed the F1ZZ-B cylinder head, I am convinced that they exist. Also, I found them referenced on the Ford Truck Enthusiast website (see https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/72214-need-help-on-cast-iron-heads.html ).
<O</O“Any of the E7TE-PA or F1ZZ-B castings from 87 to 92 motors will be the same as you stock heads. The combustion chamber is 60.6cc and the valves are 1.780" and 1.450".”<O</O

I am making the assumption that these heads were only produced one year and then modified (hence the casting number change). It is my hope that someone who frequents this forum has some more information.

According to this:
Guide to Decoding Ford Part Numbers - ClassicMustang.com
(from the info thread at the top of this forum)
the "Z" in the 4th place indicates service part.
So, one would expect the heads on the car in the showroom to have "E", and a repaired vehicle with replaced heads might have the "Z" items. I know it can't be that water tight, but that would follow the "logic", if there is any here.

Part numbers vs. casting numbers
This sounds like a possible confusion between the part number and the casting number. As you may know by now, these parts are not usually the same on Ford parts. Also one part number might reference two or more casting numbers.
I would hazard a guess that F1ZZ is a part number whereas F1ZE is the casting number.
There is a former Ford parts manager on this site who might read this thread and give input, if you are lucky.

Hey Lance.
Lance, Did you ever find the F1ZZ-6049-B heads? I have at least 1. The part number is correct. E numbers become Z numbers. E is the parts engineering number. When it becomes a service part, it gets a Z number. I am digging through a ton of NOS parts and I found 1 of your heads. Maybe I have the mate but I haven't come across it yet. Let me know... dr.montgomery@hotmail.com
