I'm tossing around the idea of a small front porch, So, I'm weighing the options of composite decking (even though its roughly 4x the PT cost) its small enough that I won't break the bank.
Do not buy it from big box stores. It can be a real hassle if a warranty issue arises with the product. Go to a real lumber yard or roofing supply place (Most big ones like ABC Supply and Allied carry it)
Azek is a good one AZEK Home , Trex and timbertech are others.
I have used Trex, it's not bad to work with. It does sag a bit, so you need to adhere to the codes when doing the stringers. I wouldn't do any more than a 16" span with it.
The nice thing, though, is that once you put the screws in, you can just push the displaced material back into the hole, give it a smack with a hammer, and it's like the screws aren't even there.
I went cheap first time I redecked my porch. The wife didn't want treated lumber so I bought the cheapest T&G flooring I could find and properly primed and painted it. The porch is northern exposure - didn't get any drying sunlight- and began to rot in 3 years. I said heck with it and replaced with composite.
My local yard had EPOCH brand. I love it after 10 years. Power wash it once a year and looks like new. Some brands are using a "ribbed" kind of design underneath to provide extra support and/or hidden fastening, but I don't think you need the extra expense if you stick with 16" centers on a small front porch. You have to shorten the centers if you plan to apply the decking at an angle across the joists so that the span is not greater than 16".
