I've never met anyone who said they built a quality motor
Every Tecumseh that I've owned has been a piece of junk.
10 hp lawnmower engine. (Lonnnnnnng gone!) That engine was truly junk.
Sears Craftsman - 36" cut.
Two snowblowers. Both 5 hp "Snowking" engines. Both are in the shed.
Carb problems from day one. (Bought in 1979.) It still runs, but, the carb has to be rebuilt every year, no matter what.
The second was given to me. I'm stripping the engine for spare parts, for the old one.
This engine won't run longer than 5 minutes. (Haven't really messed with it. Don't want to, really.)
Briggs & Stratton. First rate engines, in my book.
In "affordable" yard machines Briggs/Stratton is the only way to go, have one on an OLD Toro mower..........it must be 40yrs old, still starts on the 2nd pull every time....Tecumseh, ......Boat anchors.
I got an old mower with my house when I bought it. The previous owner left it saying it was overdue to die since it was so old. I don't know how old, but there is not a plastic part on it. It is cast aluminum with a Briggs engine. (Works great, but it hit a rock which put a big crack in the cast housing.) So I've had it for twenty years, the previous owner thought he got it in 1968. Probably due for an oil change by now.
