Would you consider an 1967 F-250 with stock 390 FE and C6 as a daily driver? I have looked at a lot of posts regarding fuel consumption etc. but in my opinion a newer truck is pretty thirsty as well and I only have about 3-10 miles to commute to work every day (i am lucky).
I would be interested what people think about it or are using a 390 FE engine daily.
Since you have a short commute, I'd personally say go for it. If it's totally original, though, you might want to look into updating little bits of your engine to use unleaded fuel, since I believe those older engines were made to use leaded. It won't cause anything catastrophic, but it can extend the life of the engine a lot.
The money you would spend an a newer truck, plus the added insurance of a newer truck, in my opinion, far outweighs the cost of the fuel. Plus, old iron will get more looks than a newer truck.
with my 68 f250 with a 360fe and c6 trans with upgrades:edlebrock preformer cam intake and 650cfm carb i'm getting 8mpg and i am still paying less than my dad in his 2004 superduty when it comes down to it its all about the experiance of the drive thats my opinion... more power to you

C, A 67 stock would have a 352 in it not a 390. All FEs become 390s on sale day because they look identical on the outside.
Thanks for all the opinions and suggestions so far. I thought that they offered the 1967 F 250's with a 390 FE. In any case unfortunately for me the truck of my dreams got sold so now I am looking for another one. Which engine would be the best combination of power/gas mileage for a daily driver?
240 I6 or a 300 I6. each can be made with addition of a cam and a four barrel carb run with any engine out there and delver the gas mileage. Lots of torque.....
I drive a 1967 F-250 4x4 with a 390 (True 390...I replaced the engine....) with a mated np435/np205 tranny package.
It's delightful as a daily driver and my main work truck as a general contractor....
Things do break from time to time....but not that often....
I also have a 4bbl 600cfm edelbrock carb and edelbrock intake....which grants me about 15 mpg.....(which is 5 mpg *BETTER* than the newest F-250 with a diesel engine....go figure...)

1967 F100/350: The only V8 available was the 352 2V.
The 360 & 390 were introduced in 1968.
The engine code is the 4th digit of the VIN: 1967: Y = 352 2V // 1968/72: H = 390 2V // Y = 360 2V.
As John stated, all these engines look identical. Sellers are clueless, so...on sale day, 352 and 360 engines magically become 390's.

CA gas prices 1967 thru 1972: One gallon of Chevron regular was 25 cents a gallon. 95 octane Supreme was 28 cents and 105 octane Custom Supreme was 30 cents a gallon.
Back then, no one gave a hoot about gas mileage.
8-12 MPG is about all you'll get around town. On the highway, 15-18 MPG is possible...depending on conditions.

18mpg in any three quarter ton truck would be fantastic even today for a gas engine, the 2500 C#e^y farm truck we got here barely squeeks out 14mpg with its fuel injected computer controlled 6.0L. Put anything in the bed or on the hitch and you can forget even getting 12mpg... all highway.
Edit: before you ask yes, I do feel kinda dirty for having to drive it
