I went to a tractor pull sat night in burlington Ky. After the pros got done pulling they let the local guys pull with there trucks (all diesels). It was heart breaking when both Fords lost thier rear driveshafts. The first one was an 96 F250 4x4 that was tearing it up good and would probly have pulled it the end of the track but at about 150 ft. the shaft broke and they told him to stop but he pulled about another 30 ft. The other was a 01 F250 4x4 and was a stick. He got the wheels hopping and trashed his shaft right at the start. There were also 4 dodges that blew apart. Worst part is it was G.M. that took 1,2,3, chevy gmc gmc. I don't think my buddies will ever let me forget this since they are chevy lovers.
GM is, but Isuzu aint. Itll probly turn up somewheres else under a different name.
True, but duramax was GM's name for it I think. From what I understand, that engine was built specifically for GM by isuzu. I'm not sure if the high cost of such a high Hp diesel can be justified in anything other than a pickup truck flagship in north america. Everywhere else around the world its all about reliability, fuel efficiency and lower cost of ownership. I feel the duramax will probably never be that and there were already plans for GM to find another diesel builder because the duramax was too expensive.
