I purchased a 2006 Ford Escape 2.3 Auto about 8 months ago. The vehicle has 21K miles on it and its pretty mint.
Recently i've been running into an issues where if i get on teh accelerator pretty good and then let off the engine will continue accelerating for about half a second or so, then it will kinda jerk around a bit and level out. Doesn't sound like much but its VERY annoying and feels unsafe at times.
Ideas? I have an extended warannty but didn't want to go into the dealership sounding as if i had NO clue what to expect.
Also the vehcile is only averaging about 20-22 MPG mixed conditions, less than impressed because i got the 4 banger to save on fuel...
Shoulda just gotten an explorer sport trac or F150 or something...
Maybe your 20-22 mpg has something to do with getting on the throttle so hard. But seriously, there was a recall for throttle cables in early models but I don't know of it includes '06. When you get off the pedal does the car want to accelerate for that extra second? That would be disconcerting. As for mpg, you are doing a lot better than you would with a Sport-Trac or F150 but we always want more.
My wife's 07 was sticking going on throttle. A new air cleaner helped a ton. Her's is a 5 speed and she gets about 20-21 mpg around town. Check for vacuum leaks in the intake track.
The accelerator pedal on my 2005 Escape has been sticking since I purchased the vehical from the showroom floor. The problem was that it took considerable pressure to to get the pedal to move from the idle positon. When the pedal finally did move, the excessive force caused the engine to accelerate more than needed. I found this to be dangerous while driving in traffic jambs. The throttle never stuck open. After two failed attempts by the dealer to repair the problem, I inspected the throttle cable and throttle body and discoved the throttle body spring was double wound or wound upon itself. I simply released and reset the spring and problem was solved.
Adjust idle stop JUST enough so STICKING pedal is gone, push throttle linkage with your hand while adjusting---does not take much of a turn.Cures sticking pedal on ALL MAKES. LOL Blue PS Fords fix under warranty was new throttle body, out of warranty Do as stated above. Got lots of LUNCH money doing this for customers!!!!
