I'm going to clean my egr valve any thing I shound know before cleaning, I have the gasket and some carb cleaner and a stripe wrench, I see in the tech files about a o ring is ther a sub for it oh yeah I have a nylon brush too, did I leave any thing out
You need a shop vac (not the wife's vacuum cleaner) for the intake. I always blow clear my MAP sensor tube (although it has never been clogged) and Ford recommends running a flexible cleaning rod down your EBP tube. They say a flexible .22 caliber gun cleaning rod will work. I have not done this just due to laziness. It is not readily accessible, so I just haven't taken the trouble. The EBP tube is located on the drivers side exhaust manifold - underneath a few things (the 03 and 04 sensor is located towards the front of the engine and the 05 and up sensor is located towards the firewall IIRC). The MAP sensor is located near the firewall on the passenger side (w/ a hose running to it).
You should replace the o-rings. You can get them at the dealership. I lubed them w/ a VERY light coat of synthetic oil before re-installing the EGR valve. It went in a lot easier that way. I suppose if you do not get new ones you can re-use them as long as you inspect them very carefully.
LOL, I was going to post something about this today but you guys beat me to it. Today was my maintenance day, I changed oil, fuel filters, filled the bug wash fluid up, rotated tires. I have never pulled the EGR valve before but I thought I better make cleaning the EGR valve part of this.
So I pulled it and it needed a scrubbing, then I looked into the intake. I had a half inch deep of oily soot in the intake. I stuck a baby spoon down in there and scooped some of it out but it is BAD. I tried everything I could thing of to get most of it out but I know there is still a good amount in there. I wanted to use some carb cleaner, but figured I better hold off and ask around to see if that was a smart idea.
What if anything can I do to clean this stuff out? I don't think a shop vac could suck hard enough to break this stuff free and get it out of there.
Don't mean to hi jack the thread but I guess this pertains.
I just clean my egr valve, boy it was dirty I have pictures I will try to up load, (need help with doing the up load on the pictures) yeah bismac your right I did get my hands a little messey, I have a 2.5 amp shop vac that works real nice and my wife tooth brush to clean the junk out with
I am going to try the shop vac today. I cant find any nozzles that I think will fit so I am going to try duct taping some 1/2 inch flexible copper fuel line to one and see if I can scrape and suck it out of there with it.
