Well i used a toothbrush, and found some of my neighbors valvoline carb cleaner. Man it was a nasty job. And that EGR valve is one pita toget out. Happy its done though.
Well it's over now, and won't get dirty for 3 o r 4 day's LOL
I noticed that btw. I put the egr valve back in real quick and then pulled it out to refit in and saw that it had a little bit of carbon already on from fitting in just putting in. How rediclious. Oh well i will pull it and clean it next year. It seemed that the truck the teuck had quickier throttle response after cleaning it. But maybe i am just fooling myself into thinking that. Lol. Idk
LOL i noticed that I was cleaning mine about the time you posted this.
For me I used simple green and an AP brush worked out great. I rinsed it w/ water, blew it out w/ air and let it sit out in the heat for an hour or so before I put it back in, It was nice and shinny when I was done. Didn't solve my problem, but didn't add to it either.
I only used the simple green b/c I thought I had carb cleaner at home didn't realized I was wrong until it was out.

At work we have brushes. We use to clean out bored holes in concrete before epoxying in rebar, they look like industrial bottle brushes. I used that to clean out the hole in hopes of being a little kinder and gentler to the Orings during reinstallation. You can get them a White Cap construction supply.

Yeah what a joke!!!!!!!!!! I watched that video just before i cleaned mine and he calls it a "crow foot" bar btw. Lololol. I was cussing that guy the whole time i was trying to get my valve out. He made it look so easy.
That same crow foot bar is available from Harbor Freight for less than $10 and since it is pure metal I picked it up.... Sometimes I think HF is disposable tools but in this case a good deal.
