You could custom order E350 with 4wd

I have see some E250 or E350 with 4wd here. It look like our F250.

I realize this thread is a few months old...but there are some newer responses that have popped back in...

Since you already have an awesome TV in that F350 CC 6.4L...I would assume you need something to haul more than 5 people comfortably while towing?

My answer to your question is use your F350!

Unfortunately there aren't many choices out there today in the NEW market from an SUV standpoint...even the new 3/4 ton burb's only have the 6.0L gasser as a motor option...I'm not sure if they even put the newer 6.2L gasser in them...hey this is a blue oval site! . It is comical that people (on other forums) actually think a Sequoia, Armada or Expy XL with their IRS is a comparable replacement for the Ex with her 8 lug full floating axles and large motor options...

As far as options to tow heavy items and haul people...your option sadly the E350/3500 GM van...PERIOD...sorry...

I'm not sure why so many people shun the E350 as a possibility...it is an amazing tow vehicle with incredible seating, towing and payload capacities...

To many people in today's society feel that driving a full size van is 'uncool'...so they go to an SUV that they view as 'cool' to tow a large and heavy item and sacrifice safety for their loved ones inside...

Towing heavy requires the RIGHT equipment...and unfortunately the way Ford and GM have caved to the special interests...the only choice is a crew cab pickemup with big block gasser or diesel...or a 1 ton full size van.

I chose to drive an Excursion because of the 4 wheel drive and I live in a northern snow climate...but to be honest...the lack of real payload in our Ex's is something that should not be ignored...or the lack of the ability to put a real receiver on the rear of our Ex's to not overload it...these two items if ignored either on purpose or because the person simply doesn't dig into it can pose a safety issue for the people in the Ex and those around the Ex when towing really heavy...

Also finding the stability handle when towing with an Ex can be a challenge...

Don't get me wrong...I am totally satisfied with my Ex...but I have invested many hours at the CAT scale getting things balanced so I am within the ratings that Ford gives me for GVWR, GAWR and the receiver rating...

Also I have put certain modifications on the Ex to allow her to be much more stable when towing...I now have a perfect handling tow vehicle...but it has taken me some time to do this...many on here are still struggling to find the handle when towing (and some when not towing due to 'wander')...

So...don't discount the E350 and 3500 GM full-size vans so quickly as awesome TV's...

These ramblings are of course only my unsolicited $0.02...

Good luck,
Joe.

hate to say it

I HATE to say it (its almost like sacrolige), but the Toyota SEQUOIA seats 8 and with the 5.7 litre and an equalizing hitch could tow and move the family in (with less legroom). You'd also have to stop for gas more frequently

JJ,

That's my point...who really believes that a 5.7L Toyota Sequoia with its independent rear suspension, P rated tires is rated at 17,280 GCWR BUT a V10 powered 3.73 geared full floating axled LT E rated tired Excursion only has a GCWR of 17,000...

Do people REALLY think that a Sequoia will pull at its GCWR BETTER than an Excursion???...now that's funny...I don't care who you are...

Don't even get me going on the mighty Tundra's ratings...

Joe.

[QUOTE=Toreador_Diesel;7922628]No one really knows why, the Duramax actually fits below the hood of the Suburban with a few modifications. /QUOTE] It's the Allison transmission that is the problem. It doesn't fit properly. There is a guy and I posted his trucks and website a few weeks ago, that converts 3/4 'burbs into Duramax 'burbs. They all need a 2" body lift to get the drivetrain to fit.

```````````````````
A diesel or V10, "Quigley'd", E350 is the best "replacement" for the Excursion. It is so much more flexible than the Excursion. Most of the time I wish I would have got one instead.
F350 conversion
So, what would it take to convert a pickup to an SUV? I see what Tim's final product is. Those are beautiful. But not everyone can get Tim's product. Here is a do it yourself option. Could the cab and bed be joined and the rear of the cab removed to open it up? Then a custom top could be fabricated to cover it. It seems that as our Excursions wear out, we will have to identify suitable replacements. There is no shortage of F350 trucks available for conversion. I was just wondering. I think a dually SUV would be nice.
We'll have to drive smaller SUVs or old EX's. I don't see the trend going in BIG direction due to the oil supply and it all gets back to overpopulation which is another thread that we couldn't run here.
So you folks have listed all the reasons my 2000 7.3 4wd Ex is NOT for sale.
I have 151,000 miles on it, run Rotella Full synthetic oil. I have new transmission, michelin's, shocks, brakes and all engine acc's. Engine is solid and so is total drive train. Never wrecked and will pull my 7000 boat as if it isn't there while giving 14 mpg towing (flat land).
I can haul 8 to and from the airport with full luggage and It 's paid for.!
So I havent' even considered selling mine. It also drives straight as an arrow with no pull on the highway. Great vehicle when I use it for towing or hauling. Normally it is parked unless I need it for fun.
at only 75k miles on the odo after 6 years of ownership, I cannot forsee giving up this truck for anything -----
unless FORD brings one back and it has that new scorpion motor in it.
I just replaced a 1998 E350 v10 conversion van that was superb at pulling, and very comfortable hauling people. Only reason I went to an excursion was for 4X4. I don't like after market conversions, too hard to service if thereisa problem. The Exc. is also necer to take hunting, van is uncool.
since i dont tow, if i was to need a replacment right now. it would be a Expedition EL. yes i know its not as heavy duty which sucks. the reason i bought my Ex was because i wanted the seating room(even though i dont use it all often) and because i wanted one. 99% of the time i'm driving my Ex with just me or one other person lol. so a expy would do what i needed, infact since i wasnt finding anything when i was searching i was looking at expys also luckly i found my excursion before i pulled the trigger on a expy.
Given there won't be another Exc. Perhaps they will build a diesel Expedition with 4x4
