Hope this will help. When you go to crank your truck hold in the tripometer reset button and turn on the ignition switch hold the reset till it changes over to test mode continue pressing it after you crank the truck until you get to the rpm mode it will stay like this until you turn off the ignition.:-X12
What gears do you have? (cross the code on the door with the owners manual) What size are the tires? What kind of trans do you have? (third in a manual is much lower than 3rd in an auto.

Wow! Great. I'm going to try it on my 300 I6 today.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-15-03 AT 07:42 AM (EST)]It didn't work. When I tried it I got the following code in the odometer window "E 08 6". Then I pushed the reset button again and got "972CAL", but the needle just sat there (it did swing across the gauge face once, but then just sat still). I could push the button more, but it would not change from the "972CAL." What does it mean? Maybe I should hold the other button instead of reset?
If you have stock gears in it, then you should shift at 30, 60, 90 to get the max horespower at it. I estimate that at those speeds you are shifting at about 5500-6000 rpms.
theres no way your shifting over 5500 rpms the 4.2 5 spd has a governor on it at 5500 when i run 80 i'm doin roughly 2800-2900 rpms when i tack it out at 97 i am running bout 3300
