Hey my cousin, which owns a F350 with a 7.3 told me he heard you could run your used oil lixed in your fuel.
not only this, but it also inceased power and mileage and lubricate the system and injectors!! i was like come on, no way. he true i heard it at the place where i was getting my cam sensor changed.
my question, has onyone tried this? is there any truth to this rumor? and if you do does it do any of his claims? if anyone is running used oil do you or did you notice these inprovements.
I think they dont carry there weight in helium but thats just me.
I run used vegetable oil in my X and have been doing so fo the last 80,000 kms (50,000 miles). I filter it through two 5 micron household water filters and then into a jerry can. I pour it directly in my tank and add diesel to make a mix of 35% oil to 65% diesel. You can safely go up to a 50/50 mix but I don't get enough oil to be able to do that much.
The oil will add lubricity (obviously) to the diesel and as far as mileage increase, the vegetable oil does have approx 5-10% less BTU's than diesel but I am saving 33% on my fuel bill so I'm coming out ahead.
In the winter (and even sometimes in the summer) I add fuel conditioner to lower the gel point of the fuel. Even with the conditioner added, below -10C (0F) I plug in to prevent the fuel in the injector lines from gelling (a lesson learned from experience)
I have read about people using used motor oil but I would tend to stay away from that as there are fine suspended metal particles that are present and unless you have a magnetic centerfuge to properly filter it, I can see issues long term.
