What is the best option for a heavy SUV that will pull 9k? Wish I would have bought a new one a few years back.
About the only option really is to call Tim and fork over the dough for him to build you an 08/09 excursion. I'm sure he could put something together for ya in the options that you wanted. just omit the spaces.

Man he does seem to get a lot of exposure from us lately, we might have to bug him to get a new one made up to raffle off in the excursion forums.
There is no replacement close to the Excursion. I was thinking about this for some time and have come to the conclusion that I will have to order a new Ford cab and chassy (same wheel base as Ex if possible) when the day comes to upgrade. I would like to have a Cummins under the hood, with a 6 speed manual though!
Anybody know what the towing capacity on the H1's are? I'm thinking a late 90's model with a Cummins transplant should help ease the pain of no more X....
get a crewcab F350 the get it made into a 6 door conversion to carry 8+ people.. as for the H1 it was only made for 1 year with the Duramax engine. and at $100K+ its probably not even in the same $$ catagory as an ex.. You could get a conversion done for an 09 Ex or 6 door for less
It would be had to replace an Excursion, they are such capable trucks. I do wonder why GM never put the Duramax in the Suburban.
No one really knows why, the Duramax actually fits below the hood of the Suburban with a few modifications. Had GM bothered to put the Duramax below the hood, they wouldn't be in the position that they were in. It would've also meant that Ford would've continued production of the Excursion to stay competitive.

It's not too late to find a nice one, although not new. There are still plenty of like new low mileage ones to be found. As others have stated, there is no real replacement for the Ex. If you ever plan on owning one, you better get one while the getting is still good. I've noticed around here that the prices of them are getting higher. Don't know if it has to do with fuel prices, or that they aren't made anymore.
isn't this a sad state of affairs that we cannot replace our loved Ex vehicles?
I have an 03 Ex EB 4x4 with the 7.3 PSD and only 74k miles on it and am deading the decision day when we have to trade or sell her.
I am glad she is not a daily driver - that job goes to the 05 Ram SRT10 or 04 MINI Cooper S - but still the miles rack up year after year, there is just some comfort on the highway with this truck
you sit high enough to see over most things, truck is solid enough to feel safe on the highway - it will yank a house out of the ground for towing capacity and ours is set up with quad captains chairs so its nice for 4 adults to go out in.
damn - FORD just couldn't make it work against the surburban
